Mexican Mayor Weds “Little Princess Alligator” For Nature’s Bounty

Must Read

The Mayor of a small village in Mexico’s Oaxaca – Victor Hugo Sosa took an alligator as his bride on Thursday, in a traditional Hispanic ceremony, soliciting nature’s reward. Sosa officially confirmed his marriage to the alligator by pecking the animal’s snout which was tied to avoid the animal from nipping the surrounding guests.

Oaxaca is a small Mexican habitat, located due south. It is a culturally-centric part of the country with indigenous groups. Victor expressed himself by saying, “we ask nature for enough rain, for enough food, that we have fish in the river.” The centuries-old matrimonial rituals were appropriately held in Catholic fashion.

The bride was a seven-year-old alligator, addressed as “little princess”. The animal wore a white wedding dress with vibrant-coloured garments. The reptile is believed to be an incarnation of mother earth and her marriage with the indigenous mayor is an embodiment of man with the divine.

The ceremony was organized by Elia Edith Aguilar, famously known as the “godmother”. “It gives me so much happiness and makes me proud of my roots”, the godmother said.

As people danced to the traditional music played on beating drums and blaring trumpets, the “little princess” was carried around in the arms of the locals, while men fanned their hats at the bride through the procession.

Godmother, Elia, expresses her emotions with a smile, “it’s a very beautiful tradition.” With much time invested in preparing for this day and contemplating the bride’s outfit, the godmother feels fortunate and proud about facilitating the ceremony.
