The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Grand Bay has been seized with the most complex investigation since Wednesday, March 29, regarding a theft in March of last year from the villa of a French national in Grand Bay. Three valuable gold watches, including a diamond-set Rolex and five gold coins, all worth 57,574 euros, or about Rs 2,821,126 were taken. The complainant, who is 62 years old, holds a work permit and is a director of a company. He suspects four employees of a security company to be the perpetrators, because they had access to his house for the maintenance of the alarm system and surveillance cameras.
It was in the late afternoon of Tuesday, March 28, that this company director went to the Grand Bay police station to report a case of theft. In his complaint he explained that he lives in a villa in Grand Bay where a theft had been committed between 11:30 am on March 11, 2022 and 11:30 am on March 19, 2022. It was only during the day on Tuesday, March 28, that he noticed that a black pouch that was in a drawer of his bedside table in his room on the second floor was no longer there. It contained a gold Maserati watch valued at Rs 429, a black Fossil watch valued at 400, a gold diamond Rolex watch valued at 55,000 and five gold coins valued at 1745. The total value of these items is Rs 2 821 000.
The 60-year-old told police that his villa is equipped with an alarm system and surveillance cameras in his yard and in his house except the second floor. He said he suspected four employees of a security company who had come to do maintenance work at his house. Only these people had access to his home. Two of them had entered his room.
The owner had left the country on March 19, 2022 and returned on April 5 of the same year. In mid-December, he left Mauritius again and returned on January 3, 2023. He has held a work permit for three and a half years.
