According to his parents, he had gone to attend a wedding ceremony in Dubai. Subsequently, an Iranian national had contacted his parents to demand a large sum of money as ransom for their son to return to Mauritius. The parents, the minister continued, reported the case to the Mauritian police and sought the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The victim’s phone indicated that he was in Sistan and Baluchistan, a strategic crossroads converging with Iran and Pakistan, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested the assistance of these two countries to find the teenager.
