Launching of MoKloud: Official Documents Finally Online

Safe and convenient access to official documents for all citizens is the promise of this online application. As a first phase, birth certificates and marriage certificates will be posted and can be downloaded for administrative purposes. This is a cornerstone in the project to digitalise administrative services.

Simpler and cost-effective public administration

This online government platform was launched on Thursday 16 September at Government House in Port Louis by the Prime Minister. “This platform is a major breakthrough that opens a new chapter in Mauritius’ journey towards paperless governance and will enable every Mauritian to enjoy the benefits that new technologies can bring to our country,” said Pravind Jugnauth. It will open up more opportunities to make public administration simpler and more cost effective, namely, through this application, queues at the Civil Status Division will be less and there will be no need to pay the cost of Rs 25 for stamps for each application.

Mobile application coming soon

According to ICT Minister Darsanand Balgobin, “The MoKloud platform will allow citizens to store and download their personal documents for free. Apart from birth and marriage certificates, other documents will be available on MoKloud very soon, including driving licences, academic certificates, utility bills and immunisation cards. For the time being, the service is accessible online and with an active Maupass account. The Minister of ICT did not fail to announce that the mobile application is being developed.

MoRendezVous comes next

He briefly mentioned an upcoming service, MoRendezVous, which will allow citizens to make appointments at a specific time and date. Speaking of advancement but especially of positioning in technologies, the Minister informed that “the International Telecommunication Union, in its latest report, ranked Mauritius 1st in Africa and 17th in the world in the Global Cybersecurity Index 2020” he said.
