Launching Of Beach Management Plan (Phase 1) At The Flic En Flac Public Beach

The Beach Management Plan (Phase 1) at the Flic en Flac Public Beach, was launched, on Saturday 08 July 2023, by the Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano, and the Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, in the presence of other eminent personalities.

The Ministers also proceeded with the launching of the Floating Beach Wheelchair project that provides for floating beach wheel facilities to disabled persons.

In a statement, Minister Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo underlined that the project is in line with the objective of the Government to foster an inclusive society to promote the integration of all citizens, in particular the most vulnerable ones. This project, she emphasised, allows persons with physical disabilities to access the beach area and engage in more activities.

As for Minister Ramano, he spoke of the various facilities being provided to the public through the implementation of the project. He pointed out that outdoor gym equipment, namely two horizontal ladders, two parallel bars, two push up bars, and two sit up benches, will be installed at the beach.

Furthermore, to enable beach goers to spend quality time in comfortable and safe conditions, ten picnic tables made of wood plastic composite material will be fixed, and one open shower will be installed, indicated the Minister.

The Environment Minister also informed that in the Phase 2 of the project, dedicated areas will be catered for commercial activities whereby health and safety protocols as well as good environmental practices can be observed.

The Beach Management Plan (Phase 1) at Flic en Flac comprises the construction of a parking area over an area of approximately 1,600 m², accommodating 64 parking spaces and eight dedicated parking spaces for the disabled. The floor will be finished with evergreen blocks to allow seepage of rain water.

Other works consist of the construction of footpaths and stone masonry wall over a length of approximately 110 m; felling of 23 trees and using the wooden logs to manufacture benches; fixing of five solar lighting poles with Led lanterns; and fixing of 10 litter bins, among others. Moreover, under Phase 1 of the project, 200 bottle palm trees, 200 ‘palmiste paques’ trees, and 100 ‘Duranta Gold’, will be planted.
