Kevin Kamal Hassen Chinnarassen, 33, was walking along Ratsitatane Avenue in Plaisance, Rose-Hill when a team of police officers went to the location following a phone call. He was arrested this Wednesday morning, May 4, on a charge of murder. He is accused of having committed this crime on the evening of Monday, May 2 to Tuesday, May 3 on the person of his father Lutcheemonay Chinnarassen, 55 years old, at their home on Emmanuel Cotte Street, Plaisance, Rose-Hill. The suspect confessed to the crime and said he committed the act following a violent argument with his father over the volume of the music. After beating him, Kevin Chinnarassen explained that he grabbed a piece of pipe to inflict blows to his father’s head.
Kevin Chinnarassen was arraigned in Rose Hill Court on Wednesday morning, April 4. He is facing a provisional charge of murder. As the police objected to his release on parole he was taken back to the police cell. Kevin Chinnarassen, who is a drug addict, is on file at the Stanley Police Station as a known repeat offender. Since the discovery of his father’s body with severe head injuries at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, the 30-year-old has been actively sought by officers of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the West Division, led by Superintendent of Police Shyam Bansoodep. The 50 year old man passed away around 11:00 am on the same day.
Father and son were living in the same house. The victim is separated from his wife, who left for abroad. Kevin Chinnarassen is known for his violent character, and this is not the first time that his father collapsed under his blows. Lutcheemonay Chinnarassen has already spent several days in the intensive care unit of the Victoria Hospital in Candos after being beaten by his son. Father and son used to have drinks together, say neighbors.
The autopsy performed on Lutcheemonay Chinnarassen’s body on Tuesday, May 3, at the Candos hospital morgue attributed his death to a skull fracture.
