A meticulous investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) led to the discovery of Dasso Nagiah, a 36 year old beach vendor, resident of EDC Balance, Plaine-Magnien. Nagiah confessed that he saw the victim when he started clearing trash from a cane field belonging to the Sugar Investment Trust (SIT). He alleged that an argument broke out between the victim and a truck driver. The truck driver, Sandiren Periapen, 48 years old, then drove his vehicle into the victim. The autopsy attributed the cause of death of the 60-year-old, who was a security guard for the SIT, to chest injuries and a dislocation of the spine. Sandiren Periapen, a resident of Mare d’Albert, is registered at the police station of Plaine-Magnien as a notorious recidivist. He is actively sought by the police.

The son of the victim, Dhanajaysing Jeetoo, 27 years old, who is an employee at Phoenix Beverages and resident of Mare d’Albert, reported the disappearance of his father to the police station of Plaine-Magnien since Saturday afternoon around 5 pm. A field investigation, conducted by sergeants Hurnaum and Boodhun of the Plaine-Magnien CID, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Mahendradeosingh Surnam and Assistant Superintendent of Police Satiajev Callychurn, led to the capture of Dasso Nagiah. The latter, who was subjected to a close interrogation, soon confessed that he was in the company of one Sandiren Periapen in the afternoon of Saturday, December 24 to dump waste in a cane field when they were surprised by the victim, who was making his rounds on a motorcycle. It was about 4:30 pm. The victim reproached the driver of this truck for having come to dump waste in this field of canes.
