In Plaine Des Roches : Mother And Son Arrested For Drug Trafficking

Must Read

Two members of a family have been incarcerated in the Beau Bassin central prison since Wednesday December 6 on provisional charges of drug trafficking. They were arrested on the same day following a raid by police officers from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) at their home in Seneck Road, Plaine des Roches. Bibi Fazianah Fokeerbux, a food merchant, was found in possession of sixty-three doses of heroin and thirteen rectangular pieces of aluminum foil suspected of being used to package the drug. His son Muhammad Wahseer Fokeerbux, a 20-year-old bricklayer, was arrested after 52 doses of heroin were found in the left pocket of his shorts. They were brought before the Pamplemousses court on a provisional charge of drug trafficking. They are being held in the Beau Bassin prison.

The arrest of these two residents of Plaine des Roches sent shockwaves through the town. According to an Adsu officer, even though they were trafficking “underwater”, they were on the radar of the unit. After days and hours of surveillance, a team of Adsu police officers from Poudre d’Or, under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Rajendranath Jhurry, arrived at the house.

Another son of Fazianah Fokeerbux, a 26-year-old bricklayer, was arrested on a charge of drug possession and later released on bail. This was after Sergeant Sham’s men found two doses of heroin (0.5 grams) in a furniture drawer in his room.
