IBA: Platform For Freedom Of Expression Protest In Front Of The Presidency

After that the President of the Republic, Prithvirajsing Roopun has given his assent by way of his signature to the amendments to the Independent Broadcasting Authority Act (IBA) on Thursday 2nd December, things have taken a new turn where the resignation of the President is now being claimed.

Therefore,  it is in front of the State House in Réduit that the Platform for Freedom of Expression has decided to demonstrate their concern by raising their voices this Saturday 4th December 2021. The protest was led by the lawyer, Rama Valayden and activist, Dev Sunnasy followed by some 30 people including Rajen Narsinghen and the activist, Bruneau Laurette.

The manifestation started at ‘Bassin Canard’ where all the participants gathered in 3 groups of 11 people. One group at a time, they walked to the State House where they manifested for around 12 minutes before walking back to ‘Bassin Canard’ where the participants gave an interview to the press members present for the protest.

Rama Valayden stated that this protest is to demand the resignation of the President of the Republic, Prithvirajsing Roopun whom he considers as being a “Useless Fellow; Useless President”. ” Nu pe deman demission President parski », has expressed the lawyer.

Rajen Narsinghen raised his voice on section 28 sub-section 1 of the Constitution, which clearly says that the President of the Republic is the guardian of the Constitution. The President, while taking his oath, is in the obligation of ensuring that the rule of law, democracy, and human rights are being respected before giving his assent to any legislation being passed in the parliament.

All sanitary measures were respected during the protest.
