The new horse racing organiser, The People’s Turf PLC Ltd, will have the tough task to host the first meeting of the 2022 racing season. The main event will be a sprint over 990m, and Kamadeva is the horse to beat on Sunday June 5 at the Champ-de-mars racecourse.
Rameshwar Gujadhur’s first horse, Kamadeva has been training since February and he is the ‘fittest horse’ of the race. The son of Capetown Noir and Particular Passion is well drawn, and he could follow ‘handy’ before attacking the leader before the home turn. He remains a strong contender for victory with South African jockey, Chase Maujean on board.
Color My Fate will be the main danger. He is a very good front runner, and he will be hard to catch in the final straight. Traines by Amar Sewdyak, he will have the Brazilian rider, José Appréciado Da Silva, on his back. Even if he is not yet in top form, he has more than enough resources to beat the favorite in the event.
Whispered on a few occasions during its first season with us, Stopalltheclocks did not live up to expectations with nothing but a runner-up place in 2021. But he did not finish far from the winners. He showed that he improved during the offseason. It still has room for improvement, but it is fit enough to start. We must keep an eye on it. He can upset the odds as he will carry only 52 kg.
Huyssteen, Rameshwar Gujadhur second runner of the race, runs very well fresh. He won on his first outing last season. He is a string finisher who ca be right therer with a lightweight of 53kg.
Haylor often needs a few racing gallops in the legs before reaching his top form. He never won over such a short trip, but he remains a top competitor.
Selection: Kamadeva – Colour My Fate – Huyssteen.
