The Annual General Meeting of the Mauritius Gymkhana Club saw the election of its Executive Committee for the term 2022/2023 under the presidency of Mr. Deva Virahsawmy. The President Elect is Mr. Shiamdass Appannah has expressed the vision of bringing back to the Club its values of ‘gentlemanship’ and will now be working alongside Mr. Virahsamwy and the elected Executive Committee for this upcoming mandate.

The new team wishes to bring positive changes to the club, in line with members’ expectations, with the hope to revamp the Mauritius Gymkhana Club to a gentleman’s club and a family club.
SHIAMDASS (SHIAM) APPANNAH is President Elect
Shiamdass Appannah is married to Sunita, a father of two children, and with over 25 years’ membership, practices tennis, golf, and gym at the Club where he previously served as Tennis Captain. He also served in Rotary Clubs in Kenya and Mauritius where he was Past President and is a first aider of St John’s Ambulance. Shiam is the Lloyd’s general representative of Mauritius and Founding Partner of the Africa-wide Reinsurance Solutions Group. He was recently honoured with the award of special guest at the golden jubilee event of the African Insurance Organisation in Nairobi. His passion is to empower people to achieve their best, and his vision is to make the club a place of wellbeing and mutual respect where members feel connected and are inspired to spend quality time within the Club’s rules and by-laws.
