After two years of absence, the Mauritius Gymkhana Club (MGC) is back with its grass tennis tournament. Organized in partnership with the Mauritius Tennis Federation, this tournament benefits from the sponsorship of the SBM Bank (Mauritius) Ltd. Thus, from this Saturday, October 15 until November 5, the courts of the Mauritius Gymkhana Club will host some 125 players, professionals and amateurs, including six para-athletes, for the SBM Mauritius Gymkhana Club Grass Tennis Open 2022. The tournament schedule was unveiled on Wednesday, October 12, at a press briefing at the MGC headquarters in Vacoas.

The fans of tennis on grass will be happy to find their favorite tournament, the Mauritius Gymkhana Club Grass Tennis Open, starting this Saturday, October 15, 2022. For this 2022 edition, the organizers are planning a category reserved for disabled players in which they have six registrations, three in the men’s and three in the women’s category.

During the press briefing on Wednesday, where representatives of SBM Bank (Mauritius) Ltd, sponsor of the SBM Mauritius Gymkhana Club Grass Tennis Open 2022, Mr. Devanand Virahsawmy, president of the Mauritius Gymkhana Club, and Mr. Edouard Ah-Chuen, representative of the Mauritius Tennis Federation, were present, the organizers stressed the importance of this tournament in the local tennis calendar.

“Grass tennis is a discipline that is quite uncommon, unlike clay tennis. The Grass Tennis Open is a tradition that we have been perpetuating for several years and we are happy to make available, once again, the courts of the Mauritius Gymkhana Club for this tournament and hope to have as large an attendance as in previous editions,” said Mr. Devanand Virahsawmy.

“Promoting lawn tennis is part of our mission within the Mauritius Tennis Federation and we are delighted to be involved again in this tournament. Lawn tennis has undergone various evolutions over the years and is gaining more and more popularity. We believe that this SBM Mauritius Gymkhana Club Grass Tennis Open 2022 will serve to further enhance the popularity of the sport,” said Mr. Edouard Ah-Chuen of the Mauritius Tennis Federation.

The tournament, which starts this Saturday, will be spread over four weeks and will end on Saturday, November 5, 2022. A prize-giving ceremony will follow the last match scheduled for that day.
