Grand-Bois Resident Arrested For Assaulting Two Police Officers

A police sergeant and a policeman had to go to the Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle for treatment after being assaulted by an individual in Grand-Bois. They went to this village on the evening of Thursday, April 21, following a request. It was the suspect’s girlfriend who called the police following an argument. In addition to assaulting the two police officers, the 40-year-old suspect Dhanmajay Bundhan also tore their uniforms. When he was informed that he was committing the crime of “assaulting police”, he insulted these officers before adding, “Mo kapav pey lamann la, 500 roupi sa”.

It was around 11:55 pm on Thursday, April 21 that a police sergeant and a policeman went to Padaruth lane, Grand-Bois. This was following a request made by a woman who had an argument with her partner who was under the influence of alcohol. The suspect began to inflict blows to the face of the police sergeant with his right hand before tearing the pockets of his shirt. The police officer who was accompanying the police sergeant was also attacked when he intervened. He was kicked before his uniform was also torn.

With the help of a team from another police unit that was called in, the suspect was subdued and arrested. The sergeant was injured in his left knee and was complaining of pain in his right cheek. The police officer sustained injuries to his right arm. He was given three days sick leave.

Dhanmajay Bundhan was placed in detention at the police station of Rivière des Anguilles. This morning, Friday, April 22, he was brought before the Souillac court on a provisional charge of assaulting two police officers.  He was released on a bail of Rs 5000.
