Covid Weekly: An Unprecedented Low Record

Only one death from Covid-19 was recorded in the country this week. This is a low record for a weekly report. The Covid virus is becoming less and less deadly in our territory. According to the results of the sequencing taken from 15 to 25 March, the variant circulating is the more contagious but less fatal Omicron variant.

The numbers are down. The Ministry of Health has recorded 226 positive local cases following PCR tests and 59 imported cases. 22 patients were admitted to New ENT Hospital during the week, 2 of whom are on life support. 2 of these patients are over 60 years, have a full vaccination schedule but have several comorbidities. 6 patients are on oxygen, 1 of whom is partially vaccinated, 5 are unvaccinated and the remaining 14 are under observation. The regional hospitals have registered 16 patients. The Omicron variant circulating in our territory has affected 14 local patients and 2 imported ones.

Vaccination on the rise

In the last 24 hours, the number of positive cases is 24. In terms of admissions, the regional hospitals recorded 2 cases and the New ENT, 3. Vaccination, on the other hand, is on the rise in all categories. The first dose registers 1,007,375 people, the second dose 955,526, Booster Dose I 620,758 of which 240,179 at Johnson & Johnson, 8809 at Sinopharm, 2,825 at Astra Zeneca, 260,462 at Pfizer and 94,555 at Moderna. The second Booster Dose II registers 2,112 people for Pfizer, 42 for Moderna and 5 for Johnson & Johnson. In Rodrigues, 72, 96% of the population received the first dose, 72, 34% the second and 13,928 people received the Booster Dose. Pfizer vaccination for adolescents amounts to 77,995 for the first dose and 68,449 for the second dose.

The country has a total of 37,656 cases of infection since March 2021, of which 35,656 have been cured.
