After Vinay Sobrun and Madan Dulloo, Gayatree Dayal is the third high-profile member of the MMM to quit. It’s a haemorrhage within the party. The lawyer has issued a short statement to justify herself. She said she talked to her relatives and mandates before making that decision. She added that the MMM, had done nothing to adapt to the pandemic.
Gayatree Dayal argues that she expected a change, in attitudes and strategy, within the MMM after successive defeats. She also argues that activists and the country in general have no more time to waste on “empty slogans” and outdated politics.
Gayatree Dayal said that she is giving a new direction to her political career.
Bhagwan: “A strategy orchestrated by the SunTrust…”
The secretary general of the MMM was quick to react to the resignation of Gayatree Dayal from the MMM. Rajesh Bhagwan said that Dayal’s move has been “orchestrated by the Sun Trust to divert attention from the Private Prosecution initiated against Pravind Jugnauth.” The Secretary General of the MMM added that Gayatree Dayal had not been active in the party since November 2019. According to him, it is not a big loss. It should be noted that Gayatree Dayal was a member of the politburo of the MMM. She obtained a ticket for the general elections of 2010 and 2019. In 2010, she was candidate in cthe onstituency no 9 and in 2019, she was a candidate in constituency no 15.
