Franklin And Nono Will Be Given A New Trial In Reunion Says Prime Minister

Must Read

Pravind Jugnauth made a statement in Parliament this morning. He wanted, he said, to clear up any misunderstanding about the extradition requests of Jean Hubert Célerine, alias Franklin, and Jérémy Décidé, alias Nono. Pravind Jugnauth said that it was only on 21 and 22 February, through a verbal note, that the French authorities requested the extradition of the two Mauritians. On 23 February, these requests were transmitted to the Attorney General’s Office. On 6 March, in accordance with the provisions of the Extradition Act, the Attorney General sought assurances from the French authorities that the rights of Franklin and Nono would be safeguarded and that they would be granted a retrial in Reunion Island. This assurance, according to Pravind Jugnauth, was given in a verbal note on 17 March. It is based on this assurance that an application for the arrest and extradition of Franklin and Nono was made. They were arrested in relation to the extradition request and presented in court,” said Pravind Jugnauth. The Prime Minister added that their lawyers have applied for their release. The hearings are scheduled for 6 April.
