EU Ambassador Pays Farewell Call On Vice-President Of The Republic Of Mauritius

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union (EU) and Head of Delegation to Mauritius, Mr Vincent Degert, paid a farewell call on the Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon,  in Quatre-Bornes.

It is recalled that Mr Vincent Degert was designated the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the EU and Head of Delegation to Mauritius on 18 September 2019.

During his tenure as EU Ambassador in Mauritius, Mr Degert has provided the unflinching support of the EU to Mauritius to spearhead various projects in different fields including infrastructure development, health sector, climate change and environment, the circular economy and smart agriculture, maritime and port security.

The EU Ambassador has also strived to strengthen the long existing friendship ties between the EU and Mauritius and opened new avenues of collaboration for both parties. Besides, in his position of the Ambassador of the EU, Mr Degert has championed the organisation’s core principles and values of freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law, promoting peace and stability.

Mr Vincent Degert is a French national. He graduated in Political Science, European Affairs (Institute for Political Science and Institute for European Studies of Strasbourg) and Law from the University of Strasbourg. Mr Vincent Degert joined the European Commission in 1987 where he first worked in the field of regional policy.

From 2000, he worked for the enlargement of the EU, successively as Assistant to the Director-General for Enlargement and Head of Unit for the Coordination of Financial Instruments. He then served as Ambassador and Head of Delegation in Croatia (2005-2009) and Serbia (2009-2013), before becoming the Head of the Russia Division within the European External Action Service at the height of the Ukrainian crisis. From 2015 to 2019 he was the Ambassador of the EU to the Republic of Haiti.
