Elon Musk Threatens Legal Action Against Microsoft Over Twitter Data

Must Read

Twitter Chief Elon Musk has issued threats to sue Microsoft accusing the technology giant of taking data from the social media platform without permission.

Musk in a tweet, wrote, “They trained illegally using Twitter data. Lawsuit time.” Musk’s warning came in response to Microsoft’s strategy to pull down Twitter from its corporate advertising platform.

Before this incident, Microsoft stated in a notice that its ad platform would “no longer support Twitter” from 25 April. This would make ad buyers helpless in using their accounts on Twitter via Microsoft’s social management tool.

“Other social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn will continue to be available,” Microsoft said.

Musk said in a separate tweet that he was “open to ideas”, while discussion was going on regarding Twitter’s data. “But ripping off the Twitter database, demonetizing it (removing ads) and then selling our data to others isn’t a winning solution,” he added.

With a basic package starting at $100 per month, Twitter began charging in February for the data it collects from “hundreds of millions” of users.

Major corporations, including iPhone manufacturer Apple, are said to have stopped advertising on the website recently due to worries about how content was monitored on the platform.
