Duval: “The Rupee Is Overvalued According To The IMF”

Must Read

The Leader of the Opposition faced the press this morning along with other leaders of the Platform L’Espoir. The Opposition Leader also referred to the latest report of the International Monetary Fund this morning at a press conference. He said that the international body has urged the government to reduce the national debt by Rs 100 billion. For him, the government has the duty to stop waste and corruption and focus on the essentials. He said the report is very hard on the Bank of Mauritius. “The IMF is asking the government to recapitalize the BoM and sell the Mauritius Investment Corporation to another entity, insisting that it is not the role of a regulator to lend money left and right,” said Xavier-Luc Duval. He also recalls that for the IMF, the Mauritian rupee is overvalued. For him, this is a very big problem. In the past week, the dollar has risen above Rs 46 for the first time in its history. “This will have a big impact on the cost of living in Mauritius and on consumers,” he said. Xavier-Luc Duval also said the IMF is not asking for the rupee to be depreciated. For him, the other option is to make the necessary reforms to the economy in order to improve productivity, encourage innovation and the adoption of new techniques but also to improve the efficiency of government services. But for Xavier-Luc Duval, Renganaden Padayachy has always taken the easy way out.

Duval: “For the Opposition, there is no more Speaker

He severely criticized the Speaker. For him, the Opposition believes that there is no longer a Speaker in the National Assembly. “Every week, there are deputies who are expelled and who are named. Not to mention the expulsions galore! This can no longer continue,” he said. Xavier-Luc Duval said that a Speaker has the duty to be impartial and fair. As this is not the case, the Opposition will take its responsibilities towards Sooroojdev Phokeer.

Bérenger wants the two letters the PMO sent to Sherry Singh to be made public

In a press conference this morning, Paul Bérenger focused first on the Sherry Singh case. He said that it is essential to “make public the two letters that the PMO sent to Sherry Singh“. The MMM leader also believes that the report of the Chief Technical Officer of Mauritius Telecom after the “survey” of April 15 should also be published. Remember that the two letters in question were sent on October 21 and December 22 respectively. Paul Berenger said he has no confidence in the DCP Heman Jangi. However, he said that if, in light of the police investigation, the DPP believes that there is no case against Sherry Singh, Pravind Jugnauth will have to take responsibility and be accountable to the people. Paul Berenger and Roshi Bhadain both spoke about this in a press conference this morning. “It is unacceptable that after more than 50 years of independence, the Security Adviser of Mauritius is a foreigner,” said Paul Bérenger. He said that the first question, during the round of interpellations addressed to the Prime Minister, concerns this subject. It is registered in the name of Reza Uteem.
