Drunken Police Officer Rams Airport Fence At Le Chaland

A metal fence and two concrete pylons, property of the Airports Of Mauritius Ltd (AML) at Le Chaland road, Plaine Magnien were damaged by a car late in the afternoon of Monday 17 April. This vehicle was driven by a drunken policeman. He tested positive for alcohol with 103 micrograms of alcohol in his breath. The 31-year-old officer, who lives in Mare Tabac, has eleven years of service in the police force. He is assigned to the police station of Grand Bois.

It was around 2:35 pm on Monday, April 17 that this accident occurred on the road to Le Chaland, Plaine Magnien, not far from the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) building. The policeman who was driving this car was coming back from the beach of Le Cambuse when he lost control of his vehicle. This one was to end up in a gutter with tearing off two concrete pylons and breaking the metal fence of the MRA.

The officer was taken to the Plaine Magnien Police Station where he was given a breath test by an Emergency Response Service (ERS) officer. He tested positive with 103 micrograms of alcohol in his breath.

He was arrested and placed in a drunk tank at the Rose Belle Police Station. On the day of his accident he was supposed to attend a Juniors’ Course at the Police Training School in Beau Bassin, but he reported sick. The investigation in this case is led by Chief Inspector Ananda Nursimulu, under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Madan Sookeea.
