Roshi Bhadain was summoned to Icac yesterday. This concerns an investigation into the recruitment of an advisor to the Ministry of Good Governance in 2015. It seems that, at first instance, Roshi Bhadain has challenged the summons. However, he decided to go to Icac. He is expected to report to ICAC on Tuesday. After the first day of interrogation, Roshi Bhadain was allowed to leave the Anti-Corruption Commission premises shortly before 5.30pm. His interrogation will continue tomorrow, Wednesday.
Roshi Bhadain, accompanied by his lawyers, arrived shortly before 1pm at the headquarters of the Anti-Corruption Commission. This interrogation is related with an investigation into the recruitment of a consultant, Andrew Stephenson, in February 2015. Roshi Bhadain was at the time Minister of Good Governance and Financial Services. It was his ministry that recruited the consultant.
Speaking to journalists before entering the Icac premises, Roshi Bhadain denounced “an extraordinary case of persecution”. He explained that Icac sent him a letter last week to “request” him to come to Icac. “I replied by letter that I have no obligation to come if it is a request and an order should be issued,” Roshi Bhadain said. The Reforma Party leader added that the Icac then asked the police commissioner to issue an arrest warrant. For him, instead of summoning Maneesh Gobin, the Icac chose to summon him. “It is something purely political,” said Roshi Bhadain.
