Dr Claude Autrey, Olivier Bancoult, Harvesh Seegoolam And Dev Virahsawmy (Posthumously) Elevated To The Rank Of GCSK

On this 56th anniversary of Independence and 32nd anniversary of Republic, the President, in consultation with the Prime Minister, has rewarded a number of Mauritians for their contribution to the service of the nation. 4 personalities have been conferred the highest national distinction, the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK). They are: Dr Louis Jean Claude Autrey for his contribution in the fields of education and science. Louis Olivier Bancoult for his invaluable contribution to the well-being of the Chagossian community. Harvesh Kumar Seegoolam for his valuable contribution in the banking sector and posthumously to Dev Virahsawmy for his contribution in the field of education, more particularly for the promotion of Mauritian Kreol and literature.

10 personalities have been elevated to the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GOSK). Anil Kumar Dip, the Commissioner of Police, and Franceau Aubret Grandcourt, the Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues, are amongst them. The 8 others are: late Éric Joseph Raoul Guimbeau, Sudhamo Lal, Noël Leung Shing, Arnaud Martin, Premode Neerunjun, Satish Purmessur, Oomar Ramtoola and Rita Venkatasawmy.

Dr Dawood Oaris and Ranjit Dowlutta are among the 8 persons who have been made Commander of the Order of the Star and Key. 15 persons were elevated to the rank of Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (OSK) and 6 others to the rank of Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (CSK).

Dr Louis Jean Claude Autrey said he was very moved and delighted to receive this distinction. For him, it represents something very important, and he thanked the Mauritian State, through the President and the Prime Minister, for granting him this distinction, which is a milestone in my career. “I started at MSIRI in August 1967, and I was 20”, he declared.
