Death of Soopramanien Kistnen: Results of Judicial Inquiry ‘Reserved’

The hearings of the judicial inquiry into the death of Soopramanien Kistnen ended on Friday 18 June. This after the questioning of the former Minister of Commerce, Yogida Sawmynaden. The representative of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Me Azam Neerooa stressed that he no longer had other witnesses to call. He also presented a police IT Unit report after examining Yogida Sawmynaden’s laptop. According to him, the police had not identified the number used by Soopramanien Kistnen before his death. Hence, the fact that a report mentioned there was no message between Soopramanien Kistnen and the former minister. Me Azam Neerooa stated that Soopramanien Kistnen’s phone number appears on Yogida Sawmynaden’s phone records and that they exchanged many messages.

Magistrate Vidya Mungroo-Jugurnath announced this Friday 18 June 2021 that the conclusions of the judicial inquiry into the death of Soopramanien Kistnen are “reserved”.

On leaving court, Soopramanien Kistnen’s widow, Simla Kistnen stressed that the suspects would already be under lockdown if the police had acted immediately.
