CTSP To Celebrate World Day For Decent Work On 7 October

Must Read

The Confederation of Public and Private Sector Workers (CTSP) has signalled its intention to celebrate the International Day for Decent Work on 7 October.

CTSP leaders Reaz Chuttoo and Jane Raggoo met with the press at CTSP headquarters in Rose-Hill to discuss details of the activities planned for the occasion.

According to Jane Raggoo, a rally will be held next to a workers’ monument next to the Rose-Hill post office. Pamphlets will be distributed to workers about their rights at work. There will also be a public interaction session. The CTSP leaders argued that it has been at least two years since they held a public rally because of Covid-19′ This is sad especially at a time when many employers are implementing the health protocol to reduce the number of sick days and annual leave for workers.

Also, they said that they are witnessing a case where a hotel manager is forcing an employee’s wife to get vaccinated or else she will not have access to her job. They also claimed that some ill-intentioned lawyers are taking advantage of the weakness of workers at this time to defend cases that are lost in advance. CTSP President Reaz Chuttoo called on the government to come up with legislation to force people to use proper bins so that the garbage collectors can work in the best possible conditions. Jane Raggoo, for her part, asked the government to regularise the situation of 17 women who work as instructors in community centres.
