CP Dip: The Decision Of The ODPP Creates An Evil Precedent

Must Read

The Police has issued a communiqué concerning the decision of the Office of the DPP (ODPP) not to challenge the decision of the Senior Magistrate of Moka District Court to grant bail to Bruneau Laurette. « The decision of the ODPP, therefore, creates an ‘evil precedent’ », says the Commissioner of Police, who pointed out that 337 suspects are currently in custody for alleged drug trafficking. He stated that the total amount of drugs seized from these suspects and their value are less than the shipment found at Bruneau Laurette.

Anil Kumar Dip maintains that the lawyers of these 337 suspects will, in turn, demand the release on bail of their clients. « These drug traffickers, if released, can have a negative impact on the population and thus, jeopardize the security of the youth as well as the work undertaken by the MPF to protect the community at large », he added.

The Commissioner of Police highlighted that the MPF believes in all institutions and respects the Constitutional rights of Mr Jean Bruneau Laurette. He stated that the MPF has taken cognizance of the ruling of the District Magistrate of the Moka Court and the ensuing communiqué issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). He said that the MPF respects the decision of the Magistrate and the prerogative of the DPP.
