At The PATS Warehouse, SST Intercepts A Parcel Of Rs 21 Million Worth Of Heroin Destined For A Deceased Person

A police operation mounted jointly by the Special Striking Team (SST) of Police Headquarters and the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (Cans) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) on Monday morning April 8 at the Plaisance Airport Transport Services (PATS) warehouse in Plaine-Magnien resulted in the interception of a parcel containing clothing, handbags and wallets. The two handbags and six wallets contained 1,410 grams of heroin. The package had a street value of Rs 21,150,000. The parcel was addressed to a resident of Batterie-Cassée, Roche Bois, who died recently.

The parcel was opened on Monday April 8 under a warrant signed by a magistrate of the Mahebourg court. The parcel had arrived in Mauritius on Wednesday March 19 on Emirates Airline flight EK 703 from Dubai. According to the manifest, the parcel was intended for a woman. A field investigation by the men of Superintendent of Police Ashik Jagai, in charge of this team, established that the recipient died earlier this year. The parcel contained jean shorts, pyjamas, slippers, handbags and wallets.

These items were thoroughly examined. Heroin was discovered inside the seams of the two handbags and six wallets. This operation was set in motion following information obtained by the police commissioner’s office. The SST is continuing its intelligence work to trace the importer of this drug. The drug will be sent to Reduit’s Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.
