A 37-year-old cabinetmaker, Rishi Pooneeth, known as Vicky, met a tragic end this Sunday, December 26, while working at his home in Camp Acacia, Flacq Post Office. The thirty-year-old was found lying on the ground. A doctor from the Emergency Medical Service (SAMU) was called to the scene and was only able to confirm his death. The autopsy performed on his body attributed his death to a shock due to electrocution.
It was around 1:15 p.m. this Sunday, December 26, that a team of police officers from the police station of Flacq went to Camp Acacia, Poste de Flacq following a request. A man, wearing a blue shirt and beige shorts, is lying on the ground. At the same place, these policemen found a welding machine with its cables disconnected with a switch box on the ground floor of this house. A grinder, a welding machine and a toolbox were on the roof of the house. An electric wire was attached to a metal pole on the roof of the house and was connected to an adjacent electric pole of this house.
The body of Rishi Pooneeth was taken to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis for an autopsy in the early evening of Sunday, December 26. The autopsy was performed by the doctor, Sheila Jankee-Prasad, Principal Police Medical Officer, who attributed the death to a shock due to electrocution.
An investigation has been opened at the Flacq Police Station to determine the exact circumstances under which the man was electrocuted.
The funeral of Risho Pooneeth took place this Monday morning of December 27. He was cremated at Allée Mangue, Poste de Flacq.
