Budget 2021-2022: Final Debates Without Opposition

Must Read

“It is unacceptable that no member of the parliamentary opposition has been scheduled to speak on the last day of the budget debates and that there is no PNQ.” This is what the members of the Opposition deplore at a press conference on Monday, June 21. They say that the government wants to silence the voice of the parliamentary opposition. According to them, this is the version of democracy of Pravind Jugnauth. Xavier Duval stressed that he will not be present for the speeches of Ministers Obeegadoo and Dookhun Lutchmun. Paul Berenger went in the same direction. For the MMM leader, the government is indulging in too much abuse. He calls this government decision a violation of democracy.

Nando Bodha praised Paul Bérenger’s speech, delivered on the night from Saturday to Sunday in parliament, which he describes as patriotic.

Roshi Bhadain, for his part, wondered, was it out of fear or weakness that the government did not want opposition MPs to intervene on this last day of debates. He also praised Paul Bérenger’s intervention in the Parliament during the budget debates.

It is to be pointed out that the debates on the 2021/22 Budget end on Monday, June 21 and will be marked mainly by a presentation from the government side. It will involve Education Minister, Leela Devi-Dookhun Luchoomun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Steven Obeegadoo and Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth. Finance Minister, Renganaden Padayachy will then summarize the discussions. The 2021-2022 Finance Bill will also be presented for second reading. The National Assembly will then move on to budget allocations.
