Bruneau Laurette And His Son Remain In Custody

Must Read

Bruneau Laurette and his son Ryan appeared before the Bail and Remand Court on Saturday. Their lawyers, namely Shakeel Mohamed and Neelkanth Dulloo for the social activist and Sanjeev Teeluckdharry, Anoop Goodary and Akil Bissessur for his son, did not file a bail motion. Bruneau and Ryan Laurette are both facing two provisional charges of drug possession and firearms possession.

According to Shakeel Mohamed, Bruneau Laurette has spoken before the Magistrate. “He made serious allegations against the Striking Team and explained what happened. He said he can identify those who took his DNA without his consent. He also said that his car was open when he was called by the Police to see what was in it. He has asked that the members of the Striking Team do not form part of the team that will investigate this case,” said the lawyer.

Shakeel Mohamed added that the Magistrate has requested that an investigation be instituted. He announced that the case has been adjourned to Monday 7 November before the Moka Court. He also mentioned the “alarming similarities between the drugs discovered yesterday and those seized at Pointe aux Canonniers“. Shakeel Mohamed said his client insists that the drugs and weapons do not belong to him.

A reconstruction of the facts at the home of Bruneau Laurette took place yesterday, Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the home in Petit Verger, St. Pierre. The operation began shortly after 1 pm and ended at 2:45 pm.
