The circumstances under which Emiliano Alexandre Minerve, a 4 year old boy, drowned in a pit in the village of Le Morne remain a mystery. The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Western Division has been called in to investigate the case. In the early evening of Thursday, April 28, the child was playing quietly with two of his friends, so how could he land at the bottom of this pit of one meter deep which is located about two hundred meters from his home. This is the answer that the investigators of the CID will have to bring. The pit in which this child drowned is located on land illegally occupied by a family.
At Avenue de l’Anthurium in the village of Le Morne, there is consternation. This new tragedy quickly spread throughout the village. Neighbors, friends and relatives flocked to the Minerve home to offer sympathy to the victim’s parents.
Nothing foretold that a tragedy would occur on this Thursday, April 28. It was around 5 p.m. when Emiliano Minerve went to play in the vicinity of his house. He was with two other boys, one of whom is his cousin. They returned home shortly after, but not Emiliano. His body would be discovered later in a pit two hundred meters from his house after a search. The circumstances are intriguing. The CID of the western division was called to clear up the mystery. Was this boy the victim of a malicious act? No hypothesis can be ruled out by these police officers.
After his body was removed from the pit by his grandfather, first aid was administered, but he did not respond. He was immediately taken to the Dr. Yves Cantin Hospital in Black River where a doctor on duty could only confirm his death.
The autopsy was performed at the morgue of the Victoria Hospital in Candos on the evening of Thursday, April 28. The autopsy was performed by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the forensic department of the police, who attributed his death to asphyxia due to drowning.
The funeral of Emiliano Minerve took place this Friday, April 29 at 3 pm.
