Laylatul Qadr 2022: The Night of Power

Must Read

This is one of the great holy nights of the Islamic calendar. Also called Shab e Qadr, it translates as the night of decree, the night of power, the night of value, the night of fate or the night of measures.

It is observed every year on the last five odd nights of the holy month of Ramadan, which is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Thus, the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th night of Ramadan could be Shab-e-Qadr.

And it was on one of these odd nights of Ramadan that the first verses of the Holy Qur’an were descended from the Loh E Mehfooz and revealed by the angel Jibril to the last Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the year 610. Although the exact date is not identified, it is generally believed to be the 27th day of the holy month.

Special prayers are planned in all mosques of the island tonight, as they are worldwide. On this night, Muslims stay awake all night to pray, recite the Qur’an and ask for forgiveness of their sins. On this night of great remembrance and devotion to Allah (SWT), it is perceived that the smallest act of kindness gives the blessings of 1,000 months.

“We have indeed revealed this in the Night of Power. And what will explain to you what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. That is where the Angels and the Spirit descend, by Allah’s leave, for every race.” “Peace! …This until the dawn of the morning!” – Surah Al-Qadr

Live Prayers

The major prayers at the Jummah Mosque will be conducted, according to the imposed health protocols, in several sessions and led by several Imaams. For those unable to attend the mosque, the Jummah Mosque is offering a live stream of the prayers led by Hafiz Ziad Said Mohideen on its Facebook page as from 5:45pm.
