Boolell: Pravind Jugnauth Is Impoverishing The Population

Must Read

The leader of the Labour Party in Parliament, Arvin Boolell faced the press this morning and drew a bleak picture of our economy. He severely criticised the Prime Minister for his management of the country as he spoke about the waste of millions of rupees of the public funds. Arvin Boolell does not rule out a new depreciation of the rupee in the horizon, and stated that our financial services sector is in jeopardy. A sword of Damocles, he said, hangs over the Mauritian offshore. For Arvin Boolell, the BOM’s reserve is empty.

Arvin Boolell cited that the Audit Report established the evidence of all the wastefulness which the regime of Pravind Jugnauth is guilty of, not forgetting to mention the reserves of the Bank of Mauritius that leave something to be desired. “The bank moris sipose ena enn reserve of 6 billion US dollar me zordi so reserve zero and so konsekans extrememan grave. Pravind Jugnauth pli gran piker poket kinn ena kom head of state,” said Arvin Boolell adding that the Prime Minister is responsible for a “tsunami of poverty”.

MP Osman Mohamed commented on the expulsion of Shakeel Mohamed and Rajesh Bagwan from Parliament on Tuesday, which he described as unfair. “Lor enn sel mot ‘shame’, mo truv sa vréman shameful,” he said. Especially since, he explained, the presence of the Opposition was fundamental for the amendments that had to be made, but in solidarity, its members had to leave the chamber. The Beach Authority (Amendment) Bill was discussed at length by MPs Ranjiv Woochit and Fabrice David. Ranjiv Woochit said that it was unfair that Mauritians have to pay fines because of picnics. Fabrice David, for his part, recalled the importance of the Beach Authority (Amendment) Bill in relation to the effects of global warming, the Wakashio incident, erosion, among others and he decried the fact that the government has not given any details on the means that will be allocated to the Beach Authority to implement the provisions of the new law.
