The MMM leader was facing the press and the only issue of the day was Agalega. For Paul Berenger, it is essential to continue to demand the publication of the agreement between India and Mauritius. This is one of the ways, he said, to silence the rumours and questions about the presence of an Indian military base on the island that belongs to Mauritius. According to the MMM leader, the length of the runway under construction on Agalega and the many articles published in the Indian press fuel these suspicions.
The MMM leader wanted to clarify issues on this and said he was “not reassured even after the clarifications provided by the Mauritian authorities”, especially on the project of installation of a military base. He is of the opinion that regular visits by Opposition parliamentarians to the atoll once the work is completed.
