Unknown in the Mauritian cinema, Yudish Ramyead enters the local film industry through the big door. Main character of the film Biye retour of François Wiehe, the actor has just won the award for best actor in two film festivals including the LA Independent Film Channel Festival and the Toronto Film and script Award.
He still can’t believe it. Yudish still can’t believe that he just won the best actor award in two international film festivals: “I’m like in a dream. Especially since this is my first film and I’ve barely done any acting,” says the automotive consultant.”
He attributes this performance to hard work: “For two months, I worked on everything down to the smallest detail. But I have to admit that it was a bit difficult to get into Raj’s shoes – he’s a very self-contained character. But, I’m glad that I was able to bring him to life and that this performance was praised by the juries.”
For the actor, his victory he also owes it to the whole team: “It should be known that Biye retour is a 100% Mauritian creation. At a cost of Rs 11 million, the film has nothing to envy the big productions.”
As a reminder, Biye retour is a film in Mauritian Creole. With English subtitles, it will be shown in Star cinemas until October 4.
