During her stay in France, Sonia Soodon will train with the Mauritian Prisca Manikion at the club CSBJ Bourgoin Jallieu in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Her first competition is scheduled for next Sunday, July 3, on 5000 m walk.

After her participation in the 20 km walk during the 22nd African Athletics Championships, Sonia Soodon has her sights set on the 2023 Island Games in Madagascar. And to achieve this goal where she will be called to succeed Prisca Manikion, gold medalist in the 5000 m walk during the 2019 IOAW in Mauritius.

And it is in the company of the latter that Sonia Soodon will train in France. “I saw Sonia’s race during the last African championships. She has a huge potential that remains to be exploited. And this is what motivated me to host her in my home and accompany her in her training and competitions,” said Prisca Manikion.

This is the first time that Sonia Soodon will participate in a training course in France and this is the day after her birthday. She plans to make the most of the five weeks of training to improve her technique and performance in competitions. “I am looking forward to start working in this new environment. The best performances will come with the improvement of my technique. I thank my parents as well as my coaches for their usual support,” she said.

Sonia Soodon’s first competition is scheduled for July 3, the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Championships.
