Arbitrary Decision & Disproportionate Punishment For Arvin Boolell Says The PTR

Must Read

Reacting to the suspension of Arvin Boolell for the next 8 sessions including today’s session, the members of the Labor Party state this is an arbitrary decision and a disproportionate punishment.

The elected members of the PTR addressed the press on Tuesday, July 20, in front of the Parliament. The incident between the speaker, Dev Phokeer and the deputy of the Labour Party, Arvin Boolell continued in the corridors of the National Assembly in the presence of Patrick Assirvaden. He emphasizes that he had to intervene so that it does not degenerate. According to him, the speaker let his bodyguards come to confront Arvin Boolell with threatening gestures.

Arvin Boolell stressed that the speaker acted arbitrarily and selectively.  He maintains that it was his duty to intervene in this session of the Private Notice Question (PNQ). According to him, the speaker Dev Phokeer was provocative and agitated. He also added that if the Speaker had asked him to apologize, he would have done so.

As a reminder, Arvin Boolell called the Speaker a ‘bachiara‘ during the PNQ.  The Speaker’s intervention was directed against the leader of the opposition, Xavier-Luc Duval, but Arvin Boolell intervened. The Speaker objected repeatedly by stating that he did not have the floor. This did not stop Arvin Boolell and it was then that he was “named” by the leader of the house.
