The government wants to maintain health restrictions, especially meetings allowing 50 people only for political reasons. This was stated by MMM leader Paul Berenger on Monday 16 May in 15 Cantons. He was the guest of the regional number 15 on the occasion of the Eid Ul Fitr celebrations.
During his speech, Paul Bérenger stressed that the government is leading the country to its ruin and is mortgaging the future of Mauritians. He added that he misses public meetings. This is the reason why he underlined that the leaders of the Alliance L’Espoir are considering lodging a complaint at the Supreme Court against the quantitative restrictions in force, especially the fact that only 50 people are allowed in meetings. He also says that the lawyers of the Alliance L’Espoir political parties are already looking into the matter and studying all possibilities.
According to Paul Bérenger, this is an attack on democracy, as the Constitution provides for freedom of public expression. He even plans to save money to take the case to the Privy Council if the Supreme Court ruling is not in their favour.
