Al Khiz Ramdin Allowed To Go After More Than Three Hours Of Interrogation

Must Read

No arrest and no provisional charges were brought against Al Khiz Ramdin at the end of his interrogation “under warning” at Pope Hennessy police station on Thursday 18 May. The journalist was allowed to leave. The file on this investigation will be referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

When he left the police station, Al Khiz Ramdin recounted his interrogation, which lasted more than three hours. He said he had answered about 20 questions from the investigators.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Gokhool, has lodged a complaint against the RadioPlus journalist for “molestation of public official “. In his complaint, he accused Al Khizr Ramdin of having made inappropriate comments about him in the Port Louis District Court on Tuesday 16 May. Another statement was made by Inspector Jeetoo for ‘disturbance’.

Both statements were made following a tense exchange between the two senior officers and Al Khizr Ramdin in Port Louis District Court on Tuesday. The court was hearing the motion to strike the provisional charges against Rama Valayden following his arrest by the Special Striking Team.

There was a heated exchange as the police barred the journalist from the courtroom. Al Khizr Ramdin challenged this decision, as the hearing was open to the public.

The police said there was no room in the courtroom.
