Assaulted In Cemetery, Ends Up In Hospital

A grave restorer assaulted with a hoe to the head was admitted to a ward in the intensive care unit of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis. It was during an argument with a cleaner working at the cemetery of Bois-Marchand, Terre-Rouge that the latter seized a hoe before inflicting a violent blow to the head. The suspect, Daniel Bryan Hypolite, 31 years old and living in the city of Bois Marchand, Terre-Rouge was arrested.

It was around noon on Sunday, May 14 that this incident took place. The 48 year old victim, who works as a self-employed grave robber, was taken to the North Hospital after being found unconscious. She had a head injury. This man, also a resident of Cité Bois Marchand, was seriously injured and was unable to give a statement. After receiving treatment he was admitted to the ward.

The 50-year-old was later transferred to Dr. Jeetoo Hospital. An investigation by the police officers of the Terre-Rouge police station established that the victim had an argument with one of his colleagues, who works as a cleaner, who grabbed a hoe and inflicted a violent blow to his head.

The same day the suspect was arrested and placed in detention at the police station of Trou aux Biches. On Monday May 15 he was brought before the court of Pamplemousses on a provisional charge of serious assault. He was then taken back to the police cell.
