Must Read

Josué Benjamin Clair, 24 years old, met a tragic end on Sunday evening, October 30. The motorcycle on which he was riding as a passenger with his cousin was hit head-on by a car on Route Royale de Grande Rivière Noire Ouest (GRNO). The driver of the motorcycle, Ismaël Clair, 23 years old, was seriously injured and taken to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis. They both live in Cité Richelieu, Petite-Rivière.  The Toyota car was driven by a student who turned 18 last April and according to one of the investigators he just got his driver’s license a month ago. After his appearance at the Port-Louis court on Monday morning, October 31, the student, who lives in Pailles, was taken back to the police cell.

It was around 11:03 pm on Sunday, October 30th that this accident occurred in front of the premises of Defimedia on the Royal Road of GRNO. A gray Toyota collided head-on with a Honda motorcycle of red color. The accident occurred when the two-wheeled vehicle came from Canal Dayal and was driving towards La Tour Koenig. The oncoming car turned right in front of the motorcycle to go to Old Pailles Road. The impact was so severe that both passengers on the motorcycle were thrown.

An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene, the doctor on board had to declare the death of Josué Clair. He was a former student of St Mary’s West. The body of Josué Clair was taken to the Dr. Jeetoo Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to multiple injuries.

A breathalyzer test was performed on the state college student which came back negative. The teenager was arrested and taken into custody. This Monday morning, October 31, he was brought before the Port-Louis court on a provisional charge of manslaughter. As the police objected to his release on parole, he was taken back to the police cell.

Josué Clair’s funeral will take place this Tuesday, November 1st. He will be buried in the Saint Georges cemetery in Petite-Rivière.

An investigation has been initiated at the police station of Casernes Centrales to determine the circumstances of this accident.
