Zimbabwean Ambassador Presents Letter Of Credence To President Roopun

The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe to Mauritius, Mr David Douglas Hamadziripi, presented his letter of credence to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, today, at the State House, in Réduit.

In a statement following the meeting, Ambassador Hamadziripi highlighted those discussions with President Roopun were cordial and focused on various issues regarding the relationship between the two countries, which needs to be strengthened. He also extended the appreciation of the Zimbabwean Government for the solidarity of Mauritius back in 2019 following the passage of intense tropical cyclone Idai which affected the eastern part of Zimbabwe.

The Ambassador also expressed appreciation for the relationship between Mauritius and Zimbabwe concerning human development and recalled that, since 1980, Mauritius has contributed to his country’s education system development. Nowadays, there are also Zimbabwean students studying in Mauritius, while Mauritian teachers are still contributing to Zimbabwe’s education system at tertiary level, he observed.

Furthermore, Ambassador Hamadziripi reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s support for Mauritius to complete its decolonisation process and for the Chagos Archipelago to be returned to Mauritian sovereignty.
