The Minister of Youth and Sports will not remove the sanctions imposed on the Mauritius Football Association any time soon. This decision was confirmed by the Minister, Stephan Toussaint, at the end of a meeting on Thursday 2 August. The meeting took place between him and the president and secretary general of the MFA, at the request of the Mauritius Football Association.
Samir Sobah, the president and Naseer Bowud, the secretary general of the MFA did not wish to comment on the meeting. However, the Minister made it clear that he wanted to clarify his position.
The MFA must first put its board in order and then present a recovery plan for local football. He hopes that all stakeholders will be involved in this project.
As a reminder, last week the Ministry of Youth and Sports suspended the allowances of clubs and regional committees, which are affiliated to the MFA. Access to state-owned stadiums has been banned for clubs as well as for competitions organised by the MFA. The Ministry has also announced that it will not issue permits to new foreign players for the 2021/22 season.
The MFA, which is under sanction from the Confederation of African Football for not respecting the International Transfer Machine System (ITMS) procedures for the transfers of five Malagasy players in the 2019-2020 season to Joachim Circle, is also marred by the case of mobile phones with video recording option in the ladies’ toilets.
