Young Cook Killed In Accident

Must Read

At the Manan’s home in Crownland Tory, Tranquebar, there is consternation. In the early morning hours of Friday, November 19, they were awakened in shock. One of their own, Jean Christophe Manan, 20 years old and also known as Chris, a cook at Le Maritim Hotel in Balaclava, was killed in a road accident in Arsenal. The young man, who was on his way to home from work, lost control of his motorcycle before it collided head-on with a traffic sign. Christophe Manan was evacuated to the northern hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

It was around 12:25 am on Friday, November 19, that a team of police officers from the Terre-Rouge police station, led by Sergeant Mudhoo, went to the Royal Arsenal Road near the bridge. A traffic accident had just occurred at this location. At the scene, a young man was lying on his back unconscious. A signpost to Port-Louis was torn off and a motorcycle was found a little further away.

An ambulance was called to evacuate the injured man to the hospital. But shortly after his arrival at the hospital, the doctor on duty had to note that Christophe Manan had already given up the ghost. His body was transferred to the morgue of the northern hospital for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to multiple injuries.

The young man, a former student of SSS Hassan Raffa of Terre-Rouge, was an avid cook. Christophe Manan’s funeral took place on the morning of Saturday, November 20. An investigation has been initiated at the Terre-Rouge police station to shed light on the exact circumstances of his death.
