‘Yoga For Wellness’ in the Pandemic Era

In Mauritius, the International Day of Yoga 2021 was celebrated at the seat of the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, in Port Louis. The event was jointly organized by the Ministry and the High Commission of India during which participants received yoga mats.

The Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Mr Teeruthraj Hurdoyal, the First Secretary of the High Commission of India, Mr C. Ramkumar, and other personalities were present at the event.

International Yoga Day - Mauritius

In his address, Minister Hurdoyal highlighted that the International Day of Yoga coincides with the World Music Day and that both events are equally important for everyone. “Yoga”, he underlined, “contributes in promoting good health, both mentally and physically, and brings comfort and relief in one’s stressful life.

Minister Hurdoyal also stated that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the psychological sufferings and mental health problems associated with it, many people use yoga to stay healthy; boost their immune system; and fight isolation, stress and depression.

International Yoga Day - Mauritius

For his part, Mr Ramkumar expressed satisfaction, on behalf of the High Commission of India, of being associated with the Ministry in organising the celebrations of the 7th International Day of Yoga. He commended this initiative from the Ministry as public servants are the ones always on the job coping with stress and workload. “As such, this initiative aims at enhancing the health and well-being of public servants”, he pointed out. The First Secretary also acknowledged that the International Day of Yoga is now widely celebrated across the World.
