Chinese New Year 2024 falls today, Saturday, February 10th, 2024, and celebrations culminate with the Lantern Festival on February 24th, 2024.
People around the world will greet each other with the words “Kung Hei Fat Choi” or “Gong Xi Fa Cai”. These are two ways of saying “Happy New Year” in two different dialects of Chinese:
Kung Hei Fat Choi (恭喜发财) is in Cantonese.
Gong Xi Fa Cai (恭喜发财) is in Mandarin.
Both greetings convey the same meaning: “Congratulations and be prosperous!” They express hopes and aspirations for a new year filled with blessings and opportunities. During the 15-day celebration of Chinese New Year, people use these greetings when visiting relatives, exchanging red envelopes (containing money as gifts), and meeting strangers or acquaintances.
The Year of the Wood Dragon 2024 is particularly special and powerful. The dragon symbolizes strength, courage, wisdom, and good luck.
