2.03 grams of cannabis were found in the possession of a 36-year-old welder from Eau-Coulée on Tuesday morning, March 15, when he arrived from France on Emirates Airline flight EK 701 from Dubai. The suspect, who was arrested, was brought before the Mahébourg court the same day. He was released on bail.

The welder arrived at Plaisance airport on this Emirates Airline flight from Dubai. After a profiling exercise, the Eau-Coulée resident was subjected to a body search and his luggage was searched by officers of the airport’s Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) and elements of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS). The officers discovered a piece of tissue paper containing cannabis in the pocket of a pair of military trousers, which was in his suitcase.

The suspect was taken to the ADSU office at the airport for questioning. In his statement, he explained that the drug was for his own consumption. He told the police that he was in France to play music. During his stay in the French capital, a person had offered him the drug for his consumption.
