Government press conference hosted by the tandem of Joe Lesjongard and Maneesh Gobin, MSM president and secretary respectively yesterday at the Sun Trust Building. The highlight was the kick-off of the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM), which is currently the largest political party in the country, will be held on August 14 in Triolet.
“We are starting a series of activities in the field starting in August. We are finalizing the schedule of activities which will be made public,” said Joe Lesjongard, Minister of Public Utilities and Energy. Lesjongard said that since the birth of the MSM and up to now, the country has seen a lot of progress. “It is whenever the Sunshine Party has been in power, as it is now, that the country has seen progress and infrastructural development. It was also under the MSM regime that measures were taken to combat poverty,” he pointed out.
In the same vein, Joe Lesjongard was keen to point out that it is still under an MSM government that the country has seen the largest infrastructure project in its history, namely the advent of the Metro Express. “The Metro Express has revolutionized the mode of transport in Mauritius. Seki pa ti dakor ek metro, zot mem pe voyaz pliss dans metro zordi,” he argued.
The secretary general of the MSM Maneesh Gobin, for his part, made a point of responding to the government’s critics. He said « A ce ki panse ki akoz zot enn de dimoun dibout lor lari ek ene deux ti pankart, pou fer nou trakase, mwa mo dir zot vinn get nou laksyon lor terin ». The latter affirms that the government will go to the end of its mandate, and this, despite the “rumors” and “demagogy” of some “unpatriotic”. Maneesh Gobin also spoke about the celebrations surrounding the 40th anniversary of the MSM, which will begin on August 14.
Several members join the MSM Political Bureau
Joe Lesjongard and Maneesh Gobin also announced an important decision during the press conference. From now on, all MSM members of parliament have joined the political bureau of the Orange Party. “The Political Bureau is the supreme body of the party. Even if you are a minister, you can’t automatically join the political bureau. There are criteria to respect. However, it is following the proposal of the Prime Minister and leader of the party, Pravind Jugnauth that all elected officials will be part of the political bureau,” he said.
Note that Roubina Jadoo-Jaunbocus made her comeback as a member of the MSM Political Bureau. She will be responsible for constituency no. 2 (Port-Louis South/ Port-Louis Central). The latter thanks the Prime Minister for the confidence placed in her.
