Vimen Sabapati Case: Chief Inspector Bheeroo Released On Rs 8,000 Bail

Arrested for Breach of Official Secrets Act by the Special Striking Team, Chief Inspector Sanjeev Bheeroo was presented before the Curepipe District Court on Monday. He had to provide bail of Rs 8,000 and sign an IOU for Rs 24,000 to regain his freedom. The police officer is accused of trying to help Vimen Sabapati. He called him at the time of his arrest on 3 May.

Vimen Sabapati appeared in Port-Louis District Court on Monday 17 todiscuss the motion lodged by his lawyer, Mᵉ Melany Nagen, before Magistrate Prashant Bissoon.  Mᵉ Melany Nagen brought a motion regarding Vimen Sabapati wishes to be transferred to prison. She explained that her client had already spent 70 days in police custody since his arrest on 3 May. The position of the police was expected. Sergeant Korimboccus of the Special Striking Team (SST), who gave evidence, told the court that the police still needed Vimen Sabapati and that the investigation had not yet been completed. He said that the reconstruction exercise had not yet been completed, nor had the examination of the suspect’s mobile phone and vehicle. The police will be able to plan as the investigation progresses.  “Decision can be taken in due course”, the investigating officer told the court. Vimen Sabapati will have to appear in court again on 24 July.
