Use Of Medicinal Cannabis : Our Doctors Will Be Trained By The Society Of Cannabis Clinicians

Must Read

The Ministerial Cabinet has approved the use of cannabis and has decided, as of Friday 25th March, that our doctors will have to be well trained before they can prescribe medicinal and therapeutic treatments to patients. The Society of Cannabis Clinicians of the USA has been chosen for this specific training.

It will finally be a reality. Cannabis treatment of our patients will soon be done in our hospitals. A team of local doctors will undergo extensive training with experts from the Society of Cannabis Clinicians of the USA. The Ministry of Health has also applied to the World Health Organisation (WHO) for appropriate technical expertise.

Four major decisions

Several important decisions were taken at the weekly session. Thus, a therapeutic committee on medicinal cannabis will be set up at regional level under the chairmanship of the regional director of health. All prescriptions containing medicinal cannabis from public and private specialists will have to be approved by the Therapeutic Committee.  Medicinal Cannabis will be provided free of charge to all patients attending public hospitals and all private patients will be required to pay for their medicines, as is currently the case for other medicines dispensed in hospitals. To mark the start of this type of treatment, medicinal cannabis will be launched on a trial basis at Victoria Hospital.
