Two Surface Technicians Arrested For Theft From A Hotel

A raid by police officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Grand Bay on a hotel in this coastal village on the afternoon of Thursday, September 1, led to the arrest of two female surface technicians, aged 16 and 19 respectively. The two women, aged 16 and 19 respectively, were quick to confess to being the perpetrators of the theft of jewellery and foreign currency.

It was following a request from a 35-year-old trainee manager of the Beachcomber Resorts that this team of CID police officers consisting of Sergeants Ramnarain, Bankar, Constables Soobrayen, Adhin, Supanee, Jadoo and Policewomen Gungaram and Komul led by Inspector Thakooor went to the Royal Palm Hotel. This Trainee manager reported the theft of 6000 Hong Kong dollars in notes and coins, 350 US dollars, 40 Australian dollars, 350 euros, jewellery including a chain with pendant, ten pairs of earrings, five pearl chains and gold and silver jewellery. Two identity cards, one Hong Kong and one Chinese, which were stolen from the villa he occupies.

Hotel Theft

Three female surface technicians who worked in the villa were taken to the CID office in Grand Bay for close questioning. During this exercise, the three employees were subjected to a body search. The 19-year-old woman, who lives in Cité Richelieu, Petite-Rivière, was found to be in possession of 120 euros, 7 euros in coins, 15 Hong Kong coins and one US dollar, which were hidden in her underwear.

She confessed to having committed the theft with the complicity of her 16-year-old colleague. She voluntarily led investigators to a bush where she hid two pairs of earrings and a silver chain with its pendant. The third surface technician was allowed to leave the CID office.

The two suspects were released on parole. On Friday 2 September, they had to go to the CID office before being taken to the Pamplemousses court. They are facing a provisional charge of “Larceny by Person in receipt of wages”.
